Okay so you are thinking to create a website or blog or may be you have already created one. When starting a blog everyone chooses a free hosting because obviously they are free. By the time your website grows you should migrate to paid hosting because in free hosting you will have so many problems. Here I’m sharing my personal experience with free hosting and reasons to avoid free hosting.
Why there is a free hosting plan?
Some of the companies provide free hosting for 1 year and after that you have to pay for your hosting. Basically companies first target on users and after that money. But there are many websites offering free hosting for lifetime. They do serve ads on their homepage, cpanel and everywhere. Some of them are all connected with each other with premium hosting providers so after building users they target them for premium hosting. Also they do have attractive referral plans so they can build a large amount of users and which means money as they offer premium plans and many do not switch their hosting provider due to migration of website takes a lot time.
Problems with free hosting
If they are offering free hosting plans then obviously there will be restrictions on the service. They provide less support , delay for response in your complains. You will have limited amount of space , bandwidth , ftp accounts , sql accounts etc. There are many restrictions they won’t show you when you register for the hosting. Most of them will not allow you to change your php configuration, cron jobs, cURL, outgoing connections from your blog so there will problem with anti-spam plugins like akismet. You won’t find any problem at beginning but after you get know about them and want to use some features you will have problem. A free hosting provider will inform you about 100 gb of bandwidth or more or less but they won’t tell you the limit of visitors a day or month.
My bad experience with free hosting
When I started this blog I had also chosen free hosting to start with and everything was just fine. After my blog was ready and getting visitors I started having some issue with my hosting provider.
The first time I contacted them for the support was a cURL error which I was getting while using a social counter plugin. The counter was not displaying follow counts on facebook and twitter. I couldn’t imagine that there will be some problem with my hosting server as it was only a social counter. I searched a lot for the issue but I didn’t get the answers anywhere on internet. Finally I found that the plugin was unable to run a script because of server restriction.
The second and most terrible problem I faced and I had to move to another paid host was a visitor limit a day. I started getting a large amount of visitors and my website went down displaying cpu limit exceeded. I again opened a support ticket for the reason and they said that my blog has exceeded a limit of 250 visitors a day and I have to upgrade my account for more. I was informed on some forum that my site link is not working and I had to solve the problem because I was getting more and more hits on my blog.
At last
Don’t worry while choosing a free host ,because it is the best option I recommend while starting a blog but make sure to change your host after you start getting visitors. I recommend to try hostinger.in as their support and service I found very good.
